Individual Control
Why is it so important that your dog learns how to control himself?
Dogs can control themselves no matter their age. Young puppies won’t always be consistent, but as long as the owner stays consistent, the dog will work its way to consistency in no time. Individual dog control helps the dog to control himself during difficult, stressful or excited environments. If a dog has no control, it doesn’t matter how many appropriate behaviors he knows, he won’t be able to tap into those and execute them. When a dog is out of control, he has set himself up for failure.
Teaching control is very easy. It starts with food. Food is a very motivating thing for dogs. If your dog doesn’t seem motivated by food then you’re not trying a good enough food. If your dog won’t work for his kibble, you need to find a different brand, one that is more natural and tastier. Food means survival for dogs, therefore, it is worth working for on a normal basis if it is good enough.
